Esteban check that out!!
and...here is the same document in a format you can edit, add to, etc. There is a little weirdness with the bullets, but I can finalize it and clean all that up at the back end. Click Here
MOH Project Planning Outline Here is our outline for the project planning. It's not completely finished, but well on its way:
Montgomery Senior High School CyberBridge Project Planning Outline
Post your driving question or driving question ideas!
How do innovations in technology/media impact our ecological and social environments?
Subquestions (possible specific directions for project for science festival):
--What is "ethical use of computers"?
--What is the ecological impact of computers and other technology hardware?
--Do gaming addictions cause changes in brain chemistry?
--How can you avoid or stop cyberbullying?
--What can you believe on the Internet and how do you determine the usefulness of a site?
Maggie, I can't figure out where to comment, but what I got out of today's lesson was that: We have an amazing Professor to deal with, Kris is so forward thinking. Our interview with her today cemented our commitment to her vision--to educate students about the safe and ethical use of the internet, and to teach high school students how to prepare for jobs and college. (kind of bringing the computer geek into the world of finding employment and higher education
We are considering the topic of Media for our project. Our over-arching question today was "How have innovations in technology impacted the social and ecological environments?". This question seemed broad enough to accommodate all of our four disciplines: Public Relations, Journalism, Spanish, and Chemistry. Chemistry seems like the hardest to work in. Ideas for this include investigation about the properties and uses, as well as the damage from waste caused, by the various metals used to make a computer, television picture tubes from antiquated tv sets, materials used to make screens for LCD's and plasma tv's, reactions that make those materials ideal for use in media equipment. Lots of this probably has to do with physics, but Mark teaches chemistry, so that is what we have to work with.
We discussed how we are going to meet and choose kids. We decided to do our CyberBridge curriculum during period 3. In order to avoid creating a separate preparation for classes we have that are not singletons (which applies only to Mark and me), we will teach the same things in all our classes, but only the period 3 students will be the actual CyberBridge students.
In Spanish, we will translate products created initially in English. Public relations can make a public service announcement and journalism write an article about topics such as web content ethics and cyberbullying.
We are not super clear about what we are doing, but feel we made some progress today. We hope to get Montgomery High clarification on our actual responsibilities as the sessions go by.

ohh i like that!! that would be very interesting. Maybe Cooksy or Rulon could help out with the brain part of it.

As a authentic component to recycling and chemicals in computers, you could produce a PSA on brands that are putting less poison in their products, as an advertisiment.
Dr. Cooksey may have some grad students who can help with the brain chemistry component.
